An engraved ID tag is the cheapest insurance a pet owner can buy. A microchip only works if someone catches your dog and gets them to a vet or a shelter. A tag works the moment a neighbour reads it, which is how most lost pets actually get home.
This one is laser engraved and hand polished, in four materials. Every tag is made to order, so the engraving is cut for your text rather than stamped from a template.
Which material should you pick?
They are genuinely different, and the right one depends on your dog rather than your taste.
- 316L food-grade stainless steel. The one we would pick for most pets. More rust resistant than the 201 steel used in most cheap tags, which matters if your dog swims or lives somewhere wet.
- Shiny brass, gold-tone finish. Real brass, hand polished. Looks the best of the four and shows wear the fastest.
- Industrial steel. The hardest option, and it takes the deepest engraving. Worth it for a dog who is rough on everything.
- Classic brass. Copper based, warmer colour, develops a patina over time. Some people like that, some do not.
Honest note on all four: engraving on any metal tag will soften over years of jangling against a collar buckle. Deeper engraving lasts longer, which is why industrial steel holds up best. No tag stays crisp forever, and anyone telling you otherwise has not owned one for three years.
What size do I need?
Match the tag to the dog, not to the collar. A tag that is too big swings and annoys them, and one that is too small cannot hold four lines of text legibly.
- Extra small, 18 mm. Kittens, cats, puppies and small breeds.
- Small, 23 mm. Chihuahua, Pug, Dachshund, Beagle.
- Medium, 28 mm. Bulldog, Boxer, Dalmatian, German Shepherd.
- Large, 33 mm. Australian Shepherd, Basset Hound, Bernese Mountain Dog.
How do I send you the engraving details?
Choose your material above, add the tag to your bucket, and check out as normal. Then email with your order number and the details below. A real hooman reads every one of these.

- Up to four lines
- Maximum 20 characters per line
- Leave any line blank if you do not need it

Most people put the pet name on the front and a phone number on the back. If you would rather not have your address on a tag a stranger can read, a phone number on its own is plenty.
How long does it take?
Engraving takes one to five business days, usually inside 48 hours, and then the tag ships. Most orders arrive in about 8-10 days.
If we have not heard from you with the engraving details, we will hold the order and email you rather than guess. Nothing gets engraved until you have told us what to put on it.
Before you order
Because each tag is cut for one specific pet, we cannot resell it, so a change of mind after engraving is the one thing we cannot take back. Everything else still stands: if the tag arrives faulty, engraved wrong, or not as described, email us and we will put it right. Our covers that, and it is the only promise we make.
